Inge noted in her email that in her province haircuts were still illegal, and it is common knowledge that in Canada, marijuana is legal.
Looks like the hippies won!

Hello dear WW community,

How are you faring during these unprecedented and in some ways surreal times?

I have happily, so far escaped the dreaded virus but not Lyme disease. Unfortunately Lyme is particularly prevalent on the eastern seaboard and is in epidemic proportions in Nova Scotia.  This is the second time in five years that I have been “ticked”.  Happily there are antibiotics which I am taking and right now I am resting comfortably at home so I thought I would share with you how things are in my community and the adaptations that we are having to make.

The Maritime provinces population of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, have suffered less than other provinces. Apart from a serious outbreak in a seniors residence where there were 54 deaths there have been six other death in the province since the new year. Numbers of documented carriers of the virus have been zero or in numbers below five for several weeks now.

On Friday of this week restaurants  and bars with restructured seating will open again as will hair salons, shops and other service industries. A professional haircut will be welcome by me as will spending time with my friends.  We will continue social distancing, no hugging or hand shaking allowed. We can again go to beaches, parks and can gather up to ten people - while practicing social distancing. children are not allowed on children’s playgrounds and day care centres are not yet open. Schools will not open until September.

If we travel to another Province we have to quarantine for two weeks on arrival in that Province  before we can go into public spaces and again when returning home we have to quarantine for two weeks. As you can imagine not many people are travelling out of their Province and of course this greatly affects tourism.  Nova Scotia has a large hospitality industry  which is greatly dependent on tourism. This year will be a very lean year relying on residents to stay within Province to support the industry.

LUNENBURG, where I live is a UNESCO heritage town which attracts many international visitors and the smaller cruise ships. None of this will be happening this year because of the quarantining regulations and the closed border between the U.S. and Canada. The border is supposed to be opened at the end of June. However, the two week quarantining rules are not conducive to a two week vacation.  There are many Americans who have second homes here who may not come this year.

In my community there  are many cultural events particularly  in the summer like three music festivals, one film festival, and many individual concerts as well as theatre performances. All of which have understandably , but sadly been cancelled, Fund raising  for these organizations Is difficult this year.  The enforced economic coma that businesses have experienced is not conducive to making donations.

Personally, I have had a silver lining in all of this turmoil. My son his Chilean wife and almost two year old son have come to stay in LUNENBURG for four months to escape the virus in South America. I am having great fun spending time with the little guy and his parents. In the absence of the usual distractions we have spent time together playing, cooking and sitting in front of the fire contemplating life.

So where did I manage to pick up the dreaded ticks. I am renovating  a house on an island only fifteen minutes from my house. I guess when working outside I have not been careful enough to cover up. On the warmer days to be wearing boots and being covered up from head to toe - so to speak, is not that appealing.  Appealing  or not, I have again learned the hard way that this needs to be done.  My goodness I have chattered a lot.  I wish that you all stay well and have a safe and pleasurable summer. Warm regards Inge

That is not true  I did not join those men at their party.  I  prefer to swim alone. Please make a correction!

Wonderful things are happening at WW

The pool, Bar B Que and Shuffle Board courts were busy on Memorial Weekend.

And better yet, Barbara Specht went swimming with the party-goers.  She said she was afraid to swim alone and asked if she could join them.
She said she had NOT used the pool in years.
The party-goers were delighted she wanted to join them.

Thank you, condo friends, for making Barbara's day.

What a fun weekend for all.

We also learned some birthdays of WW owners

Cindy Topher in B5-U2

Emily Cox B1-5 and Randy Schmidt B2-U3
have birthdays on June 3rd and realized they were born one hour apart.

It is great to see the pool being upgraded with new chairs and umbrellas for all to use and enjoy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL

ENJOY YOUR SPECIAL DAY
